A Holiday Wish

The holidays are over, and I like to take a moment to reflect. At our house, tradition brings a themed scavenger hunt that leads to a present for our kids, our way of making an event out of giving money as a gift. Writing and hiding the clues—each including directions to the next, along with our wit and philosophy—is our favorite part of holiday preparation. This year, the hunt was based upon one of my favorite quotations and I’d like to share it with you.
Clue #1.
If we could give you the single gift we would most like you to have, it would be the super power to live by the following quotation.
“The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.” ~Joseph Campbell
Clues continued the discussion of individuality, uniqueness, accepting imperfections and talents, and the peace that comes from living your truth. Our family stomped through neighbors’ yards and onto front porches to unearth clues that addressed the sense of community and the joy of connection we feel with our neighborhood.
As all hero’s journeys end, we wound up back at home where the kids were rewarded with a journal and their money. We wrote of seeking solitude and going within as a way of finding oneself and being true to who you are.
My holiday wish for my adult kids, for all my clients, for everyone, is to truly live by Campbell’s words:
“The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are.” ~Joseph Campbell
Blessings to you and yours as we close out 2017
